Questions, answered
- Is this an AI detector?
- No. Cognition never guesses whether work was AI-generated and never returns a verdict on cheating. It has a conversation about the work and surfaces evidence of understanding for you to interpret.
- Do students need an account?
- No. Students join with a short class code and a first name or nickname. We never ask for student emails, passwords, or dates of birth.
- Is it fair to every student?
- A conversation meets each student in their own words, so it does not penalise non-native speakers or particular writing styles the way detection tools do. You stay in control of how results are interpreted.
- What happens to student work and answers?
- Answers and uploaded work are used only to run the conversation and produce your summary. They are never used to train AI models, and data stays in your school’s configured region.
- Can my school try Cognition before buying?
- Yes. Schools can start with a free pilot before any purchasing conversation. Teachers can try Cognition with real classes, we can help with setup and data questions, and pricing only becomes relevant if the pilot is useful.
- What if I reach my monthly conversation limit?
- Free includes 25 conversations a month and Pro includes 200. If you reach the limit, everything you have already done stays available and your allowance resets at the start of the next month. You can choose more individual access, or start a school pilot for unlimited, pooled conversations.
- How does billing work, and can I cancel?
- Pro is billed monthly or annually, whichever you choose, and you can cancel from your account at any time. You keep access until the end of the period you have paid for, then move to the free plan. There is no lock-in contract and no cancellation fee.
- Can my school pay by invoice or purchase order?
- Yes. After a pilot, a school can pay online by card or request an invoice or purchase order. A signed data processing agreement is available for school plans, and per-student pricing falls as your numbers grow.
- Does Cognition have a lockdown mode?
- Yes, and there is nothing to install. It is not a separate lockdown browser; the Cognition page itself locks down inside the student's normal browser. While a session runs it fills the screen and students cannot navigate to other sites, open new tabs, or exit without teacher permission. The session ends only when the teacher closes it or unlocks the student.
- Can I monitor students in real time during an assessment?
- Yes. The teacher dashboard shows every student's live session — who has started, how many questions they've answered, and who may be stuck. You can also lock or unlock individual students and close the whole class session when time is up, all from one view.
